Liposuction is a fat removing procedure that breaks up fatty tissues and then removes it from the treatment area using a small tube and vacuum. As one of the most popularly requested plastic surgery procedures, improvements in technology and technique are constantly being introduced. Today, there are multiple different types of liposuction a patient can choose from. The right procedure differs from person to person based on body type, treatment area, and desired effect. Your doctor can help you decide on the perfect liposuction solution for you.
Here’s the truth about liposuction… Liposuction is not a magical weight loss procedure. Liposuction does not banish fat forever. Liposuction does not make you stay thin forever. However, liposuction, in conjunction with healthy diet and exercise, can play a huge role in helping you achieve your desired body.
Am I a good candidate for liposuction? The perfect candidates for liposuction are close to their desired weight but have trouble getting rid of a few stubborn pounds in a specific problem area. A good candidate for liposuction has already established a regular healthy diet and exercises routinely. People who are heavily overweight or have unhealthy habits will not benefit from liposuction in the long run. However, if you’re the kind of person who has tried everything to get rid of those last 15 pounds, liposuction is perfect for you!
What are the benefits of liposuction?Liposuction removes fat cells from a specific part of the body. Some of the most commonly treated areas are the neck, chin, thighs, hips, arms, stomach, backs and knees. The fat cells that are removed during liposuction never come back, so, as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle, no new fat cells will replace what has been removed.
How can I prolong the results of liposuction? It is important to remember that while liposuction removes fat cells and gives you a trimmer, contoured figure after the procedure, it does not prevent you from gaining weight in the future. To maintain the results of your liposuction procedure, it is important to stick to a healthy lifestyle so that you do not gain more weight. The most important parts of a healthy lifestyle are diet and exercise. Aim for a diet that is high in protein and low in sugar and carbs. Avoid fast food and highly processed food. Instead, opt for veggies and lean meats. There are plenty of ways to get exercise, like going for walks or runs, taking the stairs instead of the elevators, and participating in work out classes like dance or spin. Nothing’s more frustrating than being stuck with unwanted body fat that just won’t budge, no matter how many hours you put in at the gym. Liposuction can help you finally bust those final few pounds, giving you a leaner, more toned figure.
Is liposuction right for me?Liposuction is a procedure designed to remove excess fat from a particular area of the body. To be a good candidate for liposuction, you should be close to your ideal weight and already maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly. While liposuction removes the fat that is on your body at the time of treatment, there is still the possibility of new fat development if you stray from your healthy lifestyle. Liposuction is used to target certain problem areas. Some of the most commonly treated areas are the chin, neck, arms, stomach, hips, back, buttocks, legs, knees, ankles and thighs. If you’re a healthy individual looking to remove stubborn fat from one of these problem areas, then “yes!” – liposuction is the perfect solution for you!
What are the benefits of liposuction? There are many body contouring procedures available, but liposuction has many unique benefits that make it the best solution for many patients. Liposuction can remove fat precisely from the areas you wish to target while keeping the natural curves of your body. Many busy patients are drawn to liposuction because of the fast recovery time, as well.
What should I expect from the liposuction procedure?First, the doctor will inject a solution into the treatment area. This solution consists of salt water, epinephrine, and a local anesthetic to ease the pain. After the injection, the doctor will make a small incision where a tube connected to a vacuum pipe is inserted. The vacuum essentially sucks the fat cells out of your body. Liposuction is usually an outpatient procedure and most patients return to work after just a few days of recovery time. Are you ready to restore your confidence? The majority of us are familiar with stubborn fat. If you maintain a healthy diet and regularly exercise, but still struggle with stubborn fat, it is time to consider liposuction to finally bust the extra bulge. Liposuction is a popular body contouring procedure used to remove extra fat and help contour the body. While liposuction is a common and a highly recommended procedure, it is still an invasive surgery, so it is important to educate yourself on the procedure as much as possible so you can attend your consultation as informed as possible.
Benefits of LiposuctionLiposuction is an extremely effective treatment used to target fat deposits in the abdomen, back, buttocks, chest, inner knees, hips, flanks, neckline, thighs, and upper arms. During liposuction fat is sucked out of your body in small tubes that are surgically inserted into the problem area. While the size of fat cells can change with weight gain and weight loss, our bodies maintain the same number of fat cells, which means the results of liposuction are long-lasting because the fat cells are being removed from the body. Liposuction is a great way to perfect your body after significant weight loss, childbirth, or natural aging.
Risks Associated with LiposuctionLiposuction is a safe and very popular plastic surgery procedure. At Atlanta Aesthetics liposuction has consistently been one of the most popular body contouring procedures. The biggest hesitation patients have before their liposuction procedure is the recovery process. We recommend our liposuction patients refrain from work and daily chores for one week. The swelling and bruising with the procedure can take a few weeks to go down. Although the recovery process can be cumbersome, we consistently hear from our patients that the results are worth it. Pregnancy takes a toll on a woman’s body. Pregnancy and childbirth are beautiful parts of life, but mothers shouldn’t have to sacrifice their own beauty to grow their family. Plastic surgery after childbirth to restore your body, boost confidence and revive your sex life is becoming more and more popular. A mommy makeover at Atlanta Aesthetics includes multiple procedures that can be performed during one session to save downtime necessary for recovery.
AbdominoplastyAfter childbirth, a mother’s skin around the lower abdomen can get loose and stretched out. An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, removes excess skin and fat while tightening the muscles underneath, leaving the mother with a flat, toned belly.
LiposuctionIt’s common for women to put on extra weight during pregnancy, and it can be hard to find time to hit the gym with a newborn. Liposuction is an extremely effective method of removing excess fat after childbirth, especially from the hips, waist, stomach, thighs, back, legs, arms, neck, chin, ankles, and love handles.
Breast AugmentationBreastfeeding is a powerful bond between a mother and her newborn. However, breastfeeding can leave breasts sagging and deflated. Breast augmentation can restore the size of breasts with silicone or saline implants, leaving the mother will natural, fuller looking breasts. With the summer almost over and the cold months not too far ahead, now is a great time to consider your cosmetic surgery needs. At Atlanta Aesthetics many of our patients choose to have their surgical procedures in the fall or winter because the cooler months allow them to have an easier recovery period. For example, you can easily cover up scars and bandages with scarfs and big jackets. If you’re considering plastic surgery, we find that the following procedures are popular during the winter months.
FaceliftsA facelift targets the large sagging of excess skin on and around the facial region, which may be due to age or a diet change. A small to moderate incision is made on the hairline, which is where Dr. Christopher Killingsworth or Dr. Cristen Catignani removes the fat and replaces the skin. While most people heal enough to go back to work within two weeks, it will take two to three months for the face to feel “back to normal” in terms of texture, sensibility, and loss of tightness.
LiposuctionLiposuction works by “recontouring” your body, which is basically removing excess fat from underneath the skin. In this procedure, a doctor will make an incision in the target region and quite literally “suck” the fat out. Liposuction is a popular procedure for people who plan on making large diet changes in their life.
RhinoplastyRhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a popular procedure during the winter months. Rhinoplasty is performed either using a closed procedure, where incisions are hidden inside the nose or an open procedure, where an incision is made across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. The outcome is a natural and seamless look.
Brow LiftsA brow lift targets the wrinkles and lines above the nose region. A brow lift can improve wrinkles and lines that stretch horizontally across the forehead, crow’s feet, and sagging brows. There are several options for a brow lift, including a direct brow lift, mid forehead lift, endoscopic brow lift and open forehead lift. For more information about the procedures above or any of your concerns regarding your body or face contact us at Atlanta Aesthetics. We have offices in Atlanta and Cumming and provide services to patients throughout Forsyth County.
There is nothing greater in this world than becoming a mother. The feeling of having created someone that is a literal piece of you is powerful. Unfortunately, with childbirth comes potentially unwanted changes to the body. A mommy makeover can help restore your mind and body back to their pre-baby days, giving you the confidence and beauty you once enjoyed. But are mommy makeovers just for mothers? It’s Just the Name… Being a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover gives you back the confidence you feel when your body is toned and shapely. Dr. Killingsworth or Dr. Catignani first determines if the timing of your surgery is right. They may recommend that you wait until after you have your last planned pregnancy or after your child is done breastfeeding. By recommending surgery at a later date, they extend the longevity of the results. A mommy makeover is for anyone who wants multiple surgeries to target multiple parts of the body. Usually, a mommy makeover consists of three procedures: breast augmentation, tummy tuck, and liposuction. These three procedures target the breasts, tummy, and thigh areas which are the areas most effected by a pregnancy. After giving birth, you can be left with some unflattering features, such as retained fat deposits, loose and sagging skin and droopy breasts. It is inevitable that your body will change as your abdominal muscles are stretched during pregnancy and your breasts fluctuate while breastfeeding. But Is It Lasting? A mommy makeover provides the best long-term results for women who do not wish to have any more children. This procedure can also be for men who are looking for a change in their overall body size. This procedure tends to last a few decades if you stay healthy and eat right. This is not a magical procedure but if you do your part, the effects can last a lifetime. For many people, regardless of how often and vigorously they exercise, an area of fat persists on their midsection, hips, or thighs. If you have about 10 pounds of fat that you just can’t lose and are otherwise healthy and active, it may be time to explore your liposuction options. There are several different types of liposuction, all with different benefits and drawbacks:
- Tumescent liposuction – the most common type of liposuction, tumescent liposuction injects tumescent fluid into the fat areas, causing them to swell and enabling easier removal. Fat is suctioned out with a cannula. This technique results in less blood loss and bruising.
- Super-wet liposuction – the difference between super-wet liposuction and tumescent liposuction is the volume of solution used. Super-wet liposuction uses the same amount of wetting solution as the volume of fat removed, takes less time than tumescent liposuction, and requires IV sedation or general anesthesia. Tumescent liposuction uses two to three times the volume of fat removed, causing fat deposits to swell. Tumescent liposuction runs a smaller risk of blood loss and the need for a blood transfusion.
- Ultrasound-assisted liposuction – an ultrasound is used to turn the fat into liquid and then removed through a vacuum-like procedure. This technique is often used in areas with dense fat, such as the upper back or male breast. Some people first undergo a tumescent liposuction procedure and have ultrasound-assisted liposuction as a follow-up/secondary procedure for desired results.
- Laser-assisted liposuction – Also sometimes referred to as SmartLipo™, this technique uses low-energy waves to turn fat into liquid and then removes it through a small cannula. Many patients report less inflammation, less bruising, and less bleeding with laser-assisted liposuction.
If you’re struggling with a stubborn bulge that seems to be resistant to exercise and diet, chances are you’ve heard about or considered liposuction, a common procedure that improves the shape of your figure by removing unwanted fat from certain areas of the body. The surgical procedure can remove excess fat in the chin, neck, arms, stomach, hips, back, “love handles,” buttocks, legs, knees, ankles, and the inner and outer thighs. But what is liposuction? And how does it work? The first thing that’s important to note is that a liposuction does not mean “weight loss.” Rather, it is a procedure to help trim and smooth out your figure. There are two methods to this procedure: super-wet liposuction and tumescent liposuction. The super-wet method requires intravenous sedation and the amount of fluid injected is equal the volume of removed fat. The more common method is tumescent liposuction, which is similar to the super-wet procedure but uses two to three times more fluid than the volume of fat that will be removed. A physician will know which method is the best suited for your surgery. Liposuction is usually an outpatient surgery and only requires one session to complete the procedure. After the surgery, patients often return to work within a few days and resume normal activities in two weeks. Additional details about the procedures and their recovery are outlined here. Typically, the healing process depends on the volume removed; the more fat that’s removed, the longer it takes to recover. The fats in the areas of your body where liposuction has been used are forever gone. If you gain weight after surgery, you will not gain in those areas, but liposuction will not prevent you from gaining weight. Once healed, patients must eat a healthy diet and practice regular exercise routines to help the excess skin’s elasticity contract into tighter shape. An in-office consultation will help you figure out if liposuction is right for you.
Time, genetics and pregnancy can permanently change the appearance your tummy. For most people your abdomen and breasts just don’t return to normal after pregnancy which is the reason for the term “mommy makeover”. What bothers women about their abdomen is often excess fat, looser skin and loss of shape. If you are not ready for surgery, perhaps a non-invasive option may be right for you. Non Invasive Fat Reduction: Vanquish The good thing with Vanquish is that there is no downtime and it is non-invasive, something that many people desire in today’s busy workplace and home life. That being said (and as eluded to by the graphic), the results are less aggressive and more subtle. Expectations for fitting better in clothes or losing a few inches from the waistline are reasonable here. In addition it can also be thought of as a maintenance plan as there is no limit to future use.
Who doesn’t want to reduce a little extra fat from their stomach, love handles, or thighs? Often, these areas don’t respond as well with an overall weight loss plan and patients ask about what can be done for these stubborn spots. I perform liposuction and use Vanquish to help reduce subcutaneous fat (beneath the skin), and these two procedures have their own advantages and disadvantages. Liposuction is a mildly invasive procedure which can be done with local anesthesia (meaning you don’t have to go to sleep) if the area of concern is relatively small. It uses cannulas beneath the skin to mechanically remove fat. If done under local anesthesia, you could return to daily activities quickly. You may have some swelling and mild bruising for about 4 weeks and need to wear a compression garment for best results. Liposuction is the traditional method for subcutaneous fat reduction. It is more aggressive when it comes to fat loss and the results are more dramatic. If you are trying really sculpt an area of your body or see a major change then liposuction is likely your best bet. Obviously, with every procedure there risks and for liposuction they include, but are not limited to: areas of unevenness, bruising, bleeding, and mild discomfort.Vanquish also reduces subcutaneous fat, but the method is completely non-invasive. An external device is placed over the area without touching the skin, and radiofrequency energy is used to heat the skin and subcutaneous fat. Most patients think it feels pleasant and heats the tissue without being painful. The fat cells reach a critical temperature during treatment, triggering a chain of events inside the cell which eventually cause the cell to die (making it permanent fat reduction). It does require a series of treatments spaced about a week apart. The goals with Vanquish treatments are different than liposuction. If you are trying to lose a few inches from your waist line or other areas, and fit better in your clothes… then that is a good goal for Vanquish fat reduction. There is no recovery time (none!) and it is non painful, making this method very appealing to many patients. The risks are limited given that it doesn’t break the skin, and there is no limit to how many times you could be treated.
