Arm Lift in Atlanta, GA
Loose, sagging skin on your upper arms is one of the most embarrassing signs of aging. Regardless of how much you exercise, the skin does not tighten against your contours. Arm lift surgery may be a solution for you! Located in Cumming and Atlanta, Atlanta Aesthetics, home of double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Christopher Killingsworth, and Atlanta plastic surgeon, Dr. Cristen Catignani, offer arm lift surgery to the residents of Forsyth County, Georgia.
Surgery to Improve the Upper Arm
Firm, well-defined arms can be symbolic of strength and beauty, but over time, the soft tissue in the arm becomes lax and creates an unflattering appearance that no amount of exercise can improve. Genetics, weight fluctuations, and the natural aging process can cause sagging arms (sometimes referred to as “bat wings”) that many people hide because they are embarrassed by the hanging skin and fat. An arm lift, also known as a brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat deposits while addressing the weakened tissues by reshaping the underlying portion of the upper arm from the armpit area to the elbow. At Atlanta Aesthetics, Dr. Killingsworth and Dr. Catignani perform arm lift surgery for patients who want to enhance and re-contour their arms into in a more sculpted and toned appearance.
Benefits of an Arm Lift
Dr. Killingsworth and Dr. Catignani recommend arm lift surgery to men and women who want to:
- Eliminate loose, sagging skin on their upper arms
- Feel more confident about wearing short-sleeved and sleeveless shirts
- Show the natural contours of the upper arm area
The Arm Lift Evaluation
The best way to determine if an arm lift is right for you is to schedule a consultation at Atlanta Aesthetics with Dr. Killingsworth or Dr. Cristen Catignani. During your meeting, be prepared to discuss a number of issues regarding your lifestyle, general health, and overall desires. Dr. Killingsworth and Dr. Catignani will ask you why you want cosmetic surgery, and they will evaluate your expectations to determine if they can be achieved. They will examine your arms and record detailed measurements before taking photographs for your “before and after” pictures that will become a part of your medical record. Dr. Killingsworth or Dr. Catignani will give you pre and post-surgery instructions and by strictly following their guidelines, your experience at Atlanta Aesthetics will be safe and rewarding.
Although exercise can tone muscles, it cannot tighten the skin and if the underside of your upper arms are sagging or appear loose and full due to excess skin: an arm lift at Atlanta Aesthetics may be right for you. The results of arm lift surgery are long-lasting, provided you maintain a stable weight and a healthy fitness routine. It is natural for your body to lose some firmness in the arms as you age, but most of the improvements from your arm lift surgery should be relatively permanent. In some cases, prior to brachioplasty, liposuction may be used to eliminate excess fat before the actual arm lift surgery is performed and many patients choose to have other body contouring procedures performed at the same time as their arm lift including a tummy tuck or thigh lift.
The Arm Lift Procedure
A brachioplasty is typically an outpatient procedure that takes one to two hours to perform depending on the extent of your surgery, and if you are having additional procedures performed at the same time. Once you are comfortably anesthetized, Dr. Killingsworth or Dr. Catignani will make incisions on the inside or back of your arm that may span from the underarm to just above the elbow based on the amount of excess skin that needs to be removed. For people who have lost a significant amount of weight, the incision may need to run from the elbow, along the armpit, and onto the side of the chest to successfully eliminate the amount of redundant skin and for patients with only a small amount of excess skin, a minimal incision arm lift procedure may be performed in which a few small incisions are made near the underarm area. Dr. Killingsworth or Dr. Catignani will remove the fat deposits before trimming and tightening the excess skin. To complete your arm lift procedure, they will close your incisions(s) with sutures that in most cases will be absorbed by the body within one to two weeks.
The dramatic improvement in arm contour following your brachioplasty will greatly enhance your body image and if you are interested in learning more about arm lift surgery or any other cosmetic procedure offered at Atlanta Aesthetics, please contact us today.

As we age, our skin loses elasticity and sags. The upper arms are the most common areas where the skin will hang off the body. Arm lift surgery by Dr. Cristen Catignani, an Atlanta plastic surgeon, or Dr. Christopher Killingsworth, an Atlanta double board-certified plastic surgeon, removes the excess skin and fat to re-contour the skin against the arm.
